Saying that the recitatives to Cherubini's opera Medea, which he sent to the recipient, are indeed by Lachner, that the recipient is thus in possession of Lachner's autograph manuscript, and that the appearance of his name as arranger on the piano-vocal score is therefore a possible misuse of it. [NB: The handwriting in the two letters in the library attributed to Franz Lachner is so different that they almost certainly could not have been written by the same person.].

Luigi Cherubini (1760-1842) was an Italian composer and music instructor. He was a child music prodigy who went on to write many popular operas as an adult. He moved to France in 1785, where he continued to live and work, successfully surviving the tumultuous regime changes of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic periods.
